Moisture balance is one of the most important things to think about and getting this right will ensure healthy looking hair. Think about your conditioning habits and adjust these accordingly. We would advise reducing the frequency of conditioning. So if you usually deep condition once a week in the winter months, reduce this to once every other week. Your hair will show signs of distress if the moisture balance isn’t right so look out for signs such as static, dry ends or roughness which signifies lack of moisture or limp/oily hair which signifies too much moisture.
If you frequently highlight your hair, the sun may have a greater effect on this. Frizzy and dry ends can become more noticeable when you spend long periods of time in the sun. The use of protein treatments or protein-enhanced conditioners can help to restore the strength of your hair. Using a UV protecting shampoo and conditioner can also help to protect your hair from the sun’s rays.
Another factor to think about, particularly when you are on holiday is chlorine build up which can be caused from spending a lot of time in the swimming pool. This can dry your hair out and make it dull and hard to style. To avoid this problem, try to wash your hair immediately after exiting the pool with a clarifying shampoo.
